St. Louis Cardinals sweep Philadelphia Phillies with 3-1 win

The St. Louis Cardinals swept the Philadelphia Phillies with 3-1 win before embarking on an 11-day road trip.

Lance Lynn started for the Cardinals in the final game of the series this week and pitched 7 solid innings. He allowed 5 hits, 1 run, 4 walks, and struck out 6 batters. Lynn moves to 12-5 on the season with a 3.98 ERA.

Trevor Rosenthal pitched the 8th inning, where he allowed 1 hit and struck out 1 batter.

Enter Edward Mujica in the 9th inning for his 30th save of the year. Mujica allowed 1 hit but struck out 2 batters.

All the damage came in the bottom of the 3rd inning when the Cardinals put 3 runs on the board.

Pete Kozma got things started with a lead-off single in the third inning and advanced to second base on Lynn’s sacrifice bunt. Kozma scored on Matt Carpenter‘s single. Carpenter would then score when Jon Jay hit a triple. Jay scored on Matt Adams single.

Allen Craig and Yadier Molina continue to battle for the National League in batting average while Carpenter added another run to his Major League lead.

The Cardinals moved on to Atlanta following the game to take on the Atlanta Braves tonight. Tonight’s game will be televised on the MLB Network but it will only be available outside of the St. Louis and Atlanta viewing market.
