Cardinals sweep day-night doubleheader against Giants

In the second game on Saturday, it was all Adam Wainwright for the Cardinals. He went all nine innings as the Cards defeated the Giants 7-1.

Wainwright allowed 8 hits, 1 run, and struck out 10 in his third complete game of the season. He now has 84 strikeouts on the season, which currently ranks him in a tie for second with New York Mets pitcher Matt Harvey.

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny gave the night off to Holliday, Carpenter, and Craig.

In the third inning, Kozma scored when Jay reached on a fielder’s choice. Carlos Beltran singled to center and drove in both Wainwright and Jay.

In the sixth inning, Descalso singled and drove home David Freese. Shane Robinson hit a sac fly that scored Ty Wigginton.

In the seventh inning, Wigginton hit a single that drove in both Yadier Molina and Beltran.
