The MLB Draft is coming

The Major League Baseball Draft is just under a month away from now. Unlike football and baseball, there is no pretending when it comes to who will be a sure thing or not as we have seen time and time again that players have bypassed the chance to go pro in order to attend college or go back for their senior year in school.

All of that said, there are several mock drafts floating around the internet. The Cardinals have two picks in the first round at 19 and 28. The 28th pick is a compensatory pick due to Kyle Lohse signing with the Milwaukee Brewers.

At the moment, MyMLBDraft.com has the Cardinals selecting junior southpaw pitcher/infielder Marco Gonzales out of Gonzaga with the 19th pick and Farragut HS (TN) right-handed pitcher Kyle Serrano with the 28th pick. Gonzales was the Colorado Gatorade Player of the Year recipient for baseball coming out of high school. Not only can he pitch but he can hit!

MLBDraftInsider.com‘s most recent mock draft has the Cardinals selecting Fresno State junior outfielder Aaron Judge with the 19th pick and Northwest Mississippi Community College left-handed pitcher Cody Reed with the 28th selection of the first round. Judge was previously drafted in 30th round of the 2010 MLB draft by the Oakland A’s.

I’m not a betting person but I would think that the Cardinals would select a shortstop in the early rounds of the draft.
