Matt Holliday goes yard, beats Reds

All it took for the St. Louis Cardinals tonight was Matt Holliday to hit a home run. Holliday’s home run came in the bottom of the 6th inning with Carlos Beltran on first.

Jaime Garcia went 8 innings tonight. While he only struck out 3 batters, he didn’t walk any. He allowed 7 hits and one run to score.
The only run to score for the Reds came on a Shin-Soo Choo double on a fly ball to left fielder Matt Holliday. It allowed for Derrick Robinson to score from first base.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Edward Mujica got Joey Votto, Brandon Phillips, and Jay Bruce to strike out swinging. Mujica has done a heck of a job filling in as the ninth inning guy over the last week or so since Matheny shook up the bullpen.
The only other thing of note in tonight’s game is that Cardinals manager Mike Matheny gave David Freese the day off. This could turn into more than a few days off as Freese has struggled of late. I said it this afternoon and I will say it again. I would not be surprised at all if management made the decision to replace David Freese third base with Matt Carpenter. If this means calling up Kolten Wong, so be it.
