Daily Rant: Cardinals dominated by San Francisco

The Cardinals wasted another opportunity to gain ground on Cincinnati as they fell 15-0 to the Giants. Joe Kelly was on his way to another quality start until he fell apart in the sixth inning and the offense couldn’t muster any support.

The Positives

  • Jon Jay and Matt Carpenter each picked up two hits. One of Carpenter’s was his fifth triple. Unfortunately, their four hits were the only four hits of the night.
  • Barrett Browning pitched two scoreless innings, but he was sandwiched by Kelly’s poor sixth inning and Brian Fuentes and Mitchell Boggs.

Justin’s Jeers

  • Everyone but Jay and Carpenter were held hitless. The Cardinals really struggled against Ryan Vogelsong.
  • Joe Kelly was cruising towards another quality start until things fell apart. His biggest nemesis was Tyler Greene, who committed a costly fielding error.
  • Brian Fuentes was looking good as a Cardinal until Wednesday night when he gave up four earned runs, three hits, and three walks in an inning of work.
  • Mitchell Boggs followed that up with a two hits, two walks, and four earned runs in one third of an inning.

Three Stars

3) Barrett Browning – Browning was the only pitcher that could get things going against the Giants.

2) Jon Jay – Jay has absolutely been on fire for the past few games. He had another multi-hit game.

1) Matt Carpenter – Carpenter also had a multi-hit game and hit a triple.
