Daily Rant: Cardinals get no-hit by Johan Santana

facebooktwitterreddit

I apologize for the downtime at Redbird Rants as I have been without internet thanks to a cross country move from Massachusetts to Chicago, IL. On any note, let’s get to the recap. Unlike the 2011 postseason, the Cardinals were on the wrong side of history last night as they were shut down by the Mets and Johan Santana. Santana pitched the first no-hitter in New York Mets history. How’d the pitchers do? Find out after the jump.

The Positives

  • Mikael Cleto looked solid in his 2012 debut in the Cardinals bullpen
  • A couple of players took walks

Justin’s Jeers

  • The Cardinals were no-hit. Pretty big jeer there.
  • After appearing to turn the corner in his last two starts, Adam Wainwright had another poor outing. You really have to wonder if he’s fully healthy.
  • Why is Sam Freeman on this team?

Three Stars

3) Mikael Cleto – Cleto pitched a scoreless inning and in a no-hitter that counts for something.

2) Rafael Furcal – Furcal took a walk and only left one base runner. You kind of have to reach for star efforts here.

1) Matt Holliday – Holliday took a walk and was the only hitter to not leave a base runner on. MVP!!!

Today’s Game

The Cardinals hope to bounce back from this miserable performance in the second of a four game set with the Mets tonight. They are sending out 8-1 Lance Lynn to face 7-1 R.A. Dickey. Lynn has a 2.54 ERA and is trying to become the game’s first nine game winner. Dickey has been off to a great start as well as he sports a 3.06 ERA. This game is set for a 3:10 start time and the Rants will have the recap.
