We are less than one month away from the start of St. Louis Cardinals baseball in Jupiter, FL. Here at Redbird Rants we are preparing ourselves for the upcoming season. We will be instituting some new features once spring training begins so be on the lookout for them in the upcoming weeks. For now, our staff is busy reviewing any tiny morsel of information we hear about the Cardinals. Here are some items from this past week.

I wrote about the <a title="The dilemma facing the Cardinals with respect to Yadier Molina. Many fans are clamoring for an extension for the catcher and rightfully so. The question is whether Molina will speak extension with the Cards since he is reportedly upset about how negotiations were handled with a certain former first baseman. I supply some statistics which place Molina among the top 5 catchers, but may not be enough to get him a five year deal he seeks.

Chris Ferguson – Something to be Proud Of

This week the World Champion St. Louis Cardinals visited the White House and Walter Reed Military Medical Center. Chris, writes a great piece about the wounded soldiers and what it meant to them to have the Cards visit the hospital.

Justin McClary – The Cardinals Next Superstar

Justin speculates as to whether the Cardinals currently have a potential “superstar” to replace Albert Pujols. He names a few players who may have the chance, but settles on World Series hero David Freese. Justin does suggest that some of Freese’s tendencies at the plate need to be addressed and translate for a full season to truly become the face of the franchise.

Dennis McHawes – Who am I? Name that Cardinal, 2nd Edition

Dennis brings us the second edition of “Who am I? Name that Cardinal”. Dennis dug deep for this one, picking a player who did have a fantastic World Series moment in 1987. Only the most devoted Cardinals fan will get this one without cheating.

Daniel Solzman – Spring is just around the bend

Daniel supplies a summary of Cardinals happenings including two MLB Hall of Famers. He touches on a meeting between former Cardinals’ manager Whitey Herzog and current manager Mike Matheny. He also hopes that former shortstop Ozzie Smith along with Herzog will become a member of Redbirds coaching staff during spring training.
