The World Doesn’t End After All AND The Cards Are In First Place

Harold Camping incorrectly predicted the end of the world Saturday yet again (0-3 now, tough break bud). While some of those individuals were worried about the rapture, the Cardinals were busy going at the Royals in Kansas City to rebound from their tough loss Friday night.

They won in quite the performance Saturday afternoon 3-0 to take game 2 and, even more importantly, wedge another game between themselves and the Reds. The Reds are on a four game skid and luckily for St. Louis, they are in Cleveland playing the red hot Cleveland Indians who are nearly unbeatable at home this season (17-4 at home currently).

The injuries are quickly starting to take care of themselves as well. Matt Holliday and Lance Berkman provided quite the scare the other day going down in the same game. What’s worse than losing the best hitter in baseball? Losing the first AND second…eeepp. Holliday was able to rebound quickly and has taken full advantage of the interleague matchups batting in the DH spot in both games thus far. Berkman has not been as lucky, but he is not far off either. He has already been back swinging the bat but the wrist discomfort has been a little too much thus far, but the Cardinals are hoping he can be back for Sunday afternoons game. If not Sunday, Monday is looking like a pretty safe bet for their 9:05 game in San Diego.

What can we take from “surviving” the end? We have our big time role players coming back, as well as most of the bench we need and the Cardinals now enjoy a 1.5 game lead and looking to expand. Things are definitely looking up in the clubhouse and the team most major “sports gurus” had written off have the best offense in baseball and are on their way to greener pastures as the season looks ahead.
