What To Take From Last Night’s Loss

Complete Recap

So far this season we have seen our fair share of ups, but mostly downs.

At first it seemed no matter what the Cardinals did the batting was simply awful. Many stranded runners, Pujols couldn’t hit water in an ocean, but the pitching staff seemed very valuable to keep us in contention.

Last night Chris Carpenter surrendered 8 runs, the most he has since 2005, in only 4 innings. That in and of itself was more than likely a fluke and was a night the Diamondbacks just seemed to have his number. The good, this was our third straight game scoring 6 or more runs. We have have a total of 22 runs in the last 27 innings, that is huge! That is as many runs as we had the first nine or so games.

Lance Berkman is muscling up stroking 3 since they have been in the desert. Last night was just a straight up slugfest that saw Justin Upton hit the seasons longest home run at 485 feet.

Tonight Jake Westbrook takes the mound and from what we have seen out of him thus far shows we’re going to have to put up another high scoring affair just to contend. His ERA thus far is a 9.90 in his first two appearances, Cardinal fans hope this is either going to be his coming out party or that the Diamondbacks go cold. One thing for sure, we better start bringing more of those runs tonight if we look to win our first series of the season.
