Pirates 4 - Cardinals 3

In yet another close call, the Cardinals conceded the first game of their homestand with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

In what looked to be Kyle Lohse’s coming out party early on turned out to be the Cardinals third loss in the first four games. Lance Berkman hurried home to score on a groundout in the second inning and was the games lone run for a couple innings. At first Lohse had a good outing, up until the 6th inning. Neil Walker started things off with a two run double and the very next batter, Andrew McCutchen smoked a two run HR to bring the score to 4-1.

All seemed lost for the Cardinals, but they showed signs of life in the bottom of the 8th adding on two runs to their deficit. Unfortunately that was all the were able to muster and Joel Hanrahan came in to close his third save in as many wins for the Pirates on the young season.
